Abstrakt

Studies of fMRI have largely demonstrated that also the right hemisphere is activated in linguistic tasks. One hypothesis is that the so called non dominant hemisphere plays a significant role in verbal functions. However the right hemispheric activation may be induced by a non cognitive metabolic effect due to the hemispheric callosal cross-talk. To clarify this euristic problems which also contain clinic implications a fMRI study on normal subjects has been performed with the aim to explore the interaction between a large set of linguistica tasks with the activation in a number of anatomical areas in both the cerebral hemispheres. This study provides evidence of an activation in different left hemispheric areas (Broca's area and temporal cortex) in a number of different linguistic tasks.
